Latvia is a country in north-eastern Europe with less than 2.3 million people. It is one of the countries in the world with a declining birth rate and population. There were more people in Latvia twenty years ago, and even 100 years ago, than today.

Latvia has no official religion but the people have Lutheran, Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox roots giving them a bit of a background in Christianity. In general, Latvia is open to new religious ideas.

Every Nation has a church in Riga, Latvia being led by Filipino Pastor Rommel Cervantes and he shares this report:

The year 2008 was a major year of transitions for the church in Latvia. As we celebrated the 15th year of the church, we went through the challenges of two of our pastoral staff moving on to pursue what they sensed as God’s new season for them. Thanks to all your prayers we are at the tail end of these transitions.
Miraculously, after a two-year battle, in the midst of the financial and real estate turmoil, our building was finally sold and we are now debt-free as a church. Much thanks to your prayers and sacrificial giving in the past that gave us the opportunity to have a building for 12 year.
Slowly, but surely, we are moving on to a very new season as a church. We are very much excited to rebuild and to see what God would have us do. Together with Pastor Pavel and Pastor Edgars we see a lot of our leaders rising to a new level and a new batch of leaders following the Lord and wanting to reap the harvest.

We need a fresh new start and we are looking forward to 2009 as we focus on loving God and reaching out to youth and young families in Riga and Jurmala.

Prayer Points

Pray for God’s plan and will for the church to be revealed and come to pass as we continuously seek His face.
Pray For Rommel, Pavel and Edgars and their families for wisdom, leadership and strength from God as they serve the church; pray for provision for the church.
Pray for the congregation to continue to grow in God and to actively reach out to unbelievers; pray for new leaders to rise up.
Pray for more young Latvians and Russians to be changed by God and become disciples.
Pray for Rommel and his family as they take a much needed vacation in the Philippines.
